This fourth Sukie Lau collection for Spring / Summer 2009 is bold and full of colour in the signature Sukie Lau style. Fashion is working with us this season, as the catwalk looks were full of bold and vivid citrus brights. We’ve interpreted this with oversized beads in wild colours creating stunning jewellery that’s elegant and stylish, fun and flamboyant.
Bold, chunky and contrasting seemed to be the message from the catwalks, Big rings, stacked bangles and a mixture of colour and texture. Luckily we have the jewellery to fulfill on these fashion dictates.
On the colour front -Vibrant popping electric brights compete with soft sorbet tints. In the red range, warm rose and hot shocking pink are the popular tones While in the aqua spectrum there’s deep green, bright green, jade aqua and deep lapis blue. Monochromes so far include slate grey, black, fawn and navy. While the key colours - yellows, tangerine and orange are going to be the biggies this season....
It’s a season to be playful and adventurous and enjoy fashion
Sukie’s bold modern looks are shown in three collections
Armour:
Long oversized necklaces, lariats and big big beads, statement pieces, in bold and bright colours. This is extreme jewellery, with beads as big as marbles, and just as colourful. Elegant, but edgy, chunky fashion-led pieces.
Urban:
The Chinese name for this is Chang Jue, which means wild or unchecked, This collection features chokers in brightly hued Jades, noisy big bracelets - fun, big pieces, with colour as key
Darkness falls:
The antidote to armour – dark, dark pieces in faceted stones, such as black onyx and blue sandstone to party the night away. Signature bold pieces in sparkling form.
Inspiration
The philosophy behind Sukie Lau was to create jewellery that’s stong, sexy, sassy and a bit quirky ! The look is all about statement, colour, fun and not taking life too seriously ! In a nutshell, Sukie’s signature style is oversized statement pieces with bold fun colours.
The Designs
We use the best quality semi-precious stones available. As all our pieces are made from natural gemstones and in many cases coloured to our specifications. You really can say that each piece is unique.
The Designer
Sukie Lau is the creation of jewellery designer Rachel Parkin, now showing the fourth collection for Spring/Summer 2009.
Rachel loves jewellery, and the way people use it to represent their mood, expressing how they are feeling to the world and of course the fabulous thing about jewellery is that with fabulous jewellery, almost any outfit can be updated to the latest fashion trends in an instant, without costing the earth.
Some of the things that Rachel loves about using natural stones to make the jewellery are that each piece really is unique, “Natural stone jewellery is wonderful to work with because its so personal yet incredibly versatile” She loves the way it feels cold to the touch when you put it on, and then slowly warms up to your body heat, which reminds her of impossibly glamorous 1940’s movie stars warming their peals before wearing them.
“To me, it just feels like you’re really wearing the jewellery, its not just something that you throw on.”
And the best thing about my jewellery, that you can’t get from a picture is the weight of it, its not uncomfortable, but you know you’re wearing it, it really is a statement !
Rachel travels for several months a year and loves the unique look of the colourful semi-precious stones, which provide the inspiration for the collection.
